45.1. About the Unsharp Mask IP

The IP improves the sharpness of a video by intensifying the high frequency components. The IP receives frames or fields of RGB video from an Intel streaming video input. It transmits them over an Intel streaming video output after performing an unsharp mask operation. The Unsharp Mask IP has an Avalon memory-mapped agent interface to allow run-time control.

The IP supports:

  • Maximum frame resolutions of 16,384 by 16,384 pixels with 1,2,4 or 8 pixels in parallel in the RGB color space.
  • Progressive frames or interlaced fields.
  • Run-time control of strength setting. A setting of zero is bypass mode.

The IP only supports lite variants. For more information on full and lite, refer to the Intel FPGA Streaming Video Protocol Specification.

An Avalon memory-mapped interface allows you to change the strength at run time.
