18.3.3.2. I2C External PHY Management Interface

Some PHY devices use the I2C instead of MDIO for their control interface. Small form factor pluggable (SFP) optical or pluggable modules are often among those with this interface.

The HPS or FPGA can use three of the five general purpose I2C peripherals for controlling the PHY devices:

  • i2c_emac_0 at base address 0xFFC02400
  • i2c_emac_1 at base address 0xFFC02500
  • i2c_emac_2 at base address 0xFFC02600
