5.2.2. Nios® II Processor Booting from On-Chip Flash (UFM)

This section describes the Nios® II processor booting and executing software from on-chip flash (UFM) available in Intel® MAX® 10 FPGA devices.

Intel® MAX® 10 FPGA devices contain on-chip flash that is segmented into two parts:
  • Configuration Flash Memory (CFM)—stores the hardware configuration data for Intel® MAX® 10 FPGAs.
  • User Flash Memory (UFM)—stores the user data or software applications.
The UFM architecture of Intel® MAX® 10 devices is a combination of soft and hard IPs. You can only access the UFM using the On-Chip Flash IP Core in the Intel® Quartus® Prime software.
