3.2.1.1.1. Limitations on the Preserved Nios® II Processor in Quartus® Prime Standard Edition version 24.1std and Newer
In QIP approach, opening Nios® II processor projects in Quartus® Prime Standard Edition version 24.1std and newer has one limitation; you cannot upgrade the project using IP Upgrade or Generate HDL
- Nios II processor is discontinued and thus cannot be upgraded.
- You can upgrade other soft IP peripherals, but Quartus_2 cannot implement the upgraded IP without Generate HDL.
Figure 24. IP Upgrade Window
Due to the inability to upgrade the IP in Quartus® Prime Standard Edition version 24.1std and newer, the following limitations occur:
- You cannot upgrade or change the Nios® II processor system, such as switching a Nios® II/e processor to a Nios® II/f processor.
- You cannot add, remove, or upgrade the soft IP peripherals to what was generated in the Platform Designer system. The IP version of soft IP peripherals is limited from Quartus_1.
- You cannot change the system address map.
- Any peripherals or systems that connect to the processor must remain unchanged in Quartus_2. This includes the Clock Bridge, Reset Bridge, and PLL IP Core.
You must revert the older Quartus® Prime Standard Edition software (Quartus_1) to make any changes to the processor system and regenerate the project HDL.
