With the evolution of SmartNIC and other types of intelligent server add-in cards, the PCIE_X8X8 dual endpoint mode topology has become a more common use case. In many of these systems, one endpoint is connected to the Root Port of a Host CPU on a server motherboard. The second endpoint is connected to the Root Port of an SOC Host on an add-in card.
