Run Intel® VTune™ Profiler Server

Learn how to start and run Intel® VTune™ Profiler Server and view results.

Prerequisite

Make sure that you have installed VTune Profiler Server with the Intel® VTune™ Profiler product package.

All configurations begin with the vtune-backend command. You can then include options for remote access and collection functionality.

Start VTune Profiler Server

Run this command:

<vtune-install-dir>/bin64/vtune-backend

VTune Profiler Server returns a URL to access the GUI. For the first run, the URL includes a one-time token. For example:

Serving GUI at https://127.0.0.1:64880?one-time-token=0160852eeff593e0ab0a0f90991b4efa

If you want VTune Profiler Server to access a specific TCP port, specify the port with the --web-port option. For example:

vtune-backend --web-port=8080

Optionally, you can specify a working directory for VTune Profiler Server using the --data-directory option. For example:

vtune-backend --web-port=8080 --data-directory="C:\vtune-results"

By default, browser access to VTune Profiler Server is limited to the local host only. To enable browser access from other systems, run the server with the --allow-remote-access option. For example:

vtune-backend --web-port=8080 --data-directory=/mnt/vtune-results --allow-remote-access

For the Target Collector and Viewer configuration, add the -enable-server-profiling option to enable collection on the server itself. For example:

vtune-backend --web-port=8080 --data-directory=/home/user/vtune-results --allow-remote-access --enable-server-profiling

Open the VTune Profiler Server URL

After you run the vtune-backend command, VTune Profiler Server returns a URL to access the VTune Profiler GUI. If you are starting the server for the first time, or if you have not set a passphrase, this URL includes a one-time token.

In the reverse proxy or SAML SSO usage modes, use the URL provided by your administrator to access the instance of VTune Profiler Server installed in a lab.

NOTE:
If you start VTune Profiler Server in the personal/evaluation mode with no signed TLS certificate provided, your web browser warns you that the default self-signed server certificate is not trusted. You must provide your confirmation to proceed.

Set a passphrase or enter the current passphrase. To reset the passphrase, run the vtune-backend command with -reset-passphrase:

vtune-backend --reset-passphrase
