A.5.1. Introduction

Demand for global communications and networking bandwidth continues to increase. Therefore, the communication equipment, servers, and other related equipment must continue to scale to meet the challenge. High serial data rates not only need a higher channel bandwidth but also come with signal integrity challenges such as signal distortion.

This document guides you to find the optimal settings for tuning the Transmitter (TX) and Receiver (RX) for applications that run NRZ or PAM4 data at high-speed data rates and achieve a low bit error rate (BER), large eye height, and large figure of merit (FOM) across different transmission reach.
Note: The F-Tile supports PCIe using FGT PMA, but this document does not cover tuning for PCIe applications.
