A.5.2. Equalization Techniques Overview

To overcome the degradation across backplane channels, F-Tile FGT and FHT PMA transceivers offer a number of equalization techniques to help compensate for channel non-idealities and ensure that a signal is received without error at the receiver. Equalization can be employed at both the transmit (TX) and receive (RX) ends of a link.

The equalization techniques available in the F-Tile FGT PMA are:
  • Transmitter (TX)
    • TX Equalization (TX EQ)
      • main_tap
      • post_tap_1
      • pre_tap_1
      • pre_tap_2
  • Receiver (RX) 55
    • Variable Gain Amplifier (VGA)
    • Continuous time-linear equalization (CTLE)
    • Decision feedback equalization tap1 (DFE)
The equalization techniques available in the F-Tile FHT PMA are:
  • Transmitter (TX)
    • TX Equalization (TX EQ)
      • main cursor
      • post cursor 1
      • post cursor 2
      • pre cursor 1
      • pre cursor 2
  • Receiver (RX)
    • Variable Gain Amplifier (VGA)
    • Continuous time-linear equalization (CTLE)
    • Feed forward equalization (FFE)
    • Decision feedback equalization (DFE)

Note: The three RX parameters are only for manual tuning when RX auto adaptation is OFF. When RX auto Adaptation is ON, they cannot be modified.
