Intel® NUC Pro Software Suite (NPSS) Version 3

Introduction:

The Intel® NUC Pro Software Suite monitors unattended applications and provides redundant screen services for digital signage applications. This version of NPSS is only applicable for newer products launched in 2023.

Description:

The Intel® NUC Pro Software Suite (NPSS) monitors unattended applications and provides redundant screen services for digital signage applications. Key capabilities of this tool include

• Terminate and relaunch the application when targeted application becomes unresponsive.
• Gracefully shutdown or restart OS whenever it detects a target application failed x + times – as specified by the user, since the last Windows boot.
• Log application monitoring activity to easily accessible log file.
• This utility can enable hardware watchdog timer to execute a hard system reset if for any reason the system (or NPSS itself) were to become unresponsive
• Take over the display of a paired NUC if it were to experience a system failure, and allow the affected NUC to resume driving its display when it is once again detected in a healthy state.
• Hardware Diagnostic feature runs diagnostic calls between the NUC and display via HDMI CEC, leveraging WMI interfaces exposed by NUC ACPI BIOS

Intel® NUC Pro Software Suite – Configuration Tool provides step by step instructions for the player failover capability to be configured on the target NUCs and their respective (primary and secondary) displays. For the player failover feature to successfully work, it is critical to follow the instructions from the configuration tool which shall be installed on a host PC in the same local network as the target NUCs. This host PC could be a temporary/mobile system, such as the deployment engineer’s laptop, as the configuration tool is only needed during NUC deployment setup and does not need to stay resident after the deployment installation is complete.

Installation Instructions:

For Windows systems, download the IntelNpss-Windows-3.x.x.x.zip package and install in the following order:

1. Intel® NUC Pro Software Suite – on the target NUC (this will in turn install the Intel Watchdog Timer Driver)
2. Intel® NUC Pro Software Suite – Configuration Tool - on the host PC

For Linux systems, download the IntelNpssPhase3-Linux.tar package and install in the following order:

1. Intel NUC Pro Software Suite driver– on the target NUC
2. Intel® NUC Pro Software Suite – on the target NUC
3. Intel® NUC Pro Software Suite – Configuration Tool - on the host PC
