3.2. Installing and Licensing IPs
The Quartus® Prime software installation includes the IP library. This library provides many useful IPs for your production use without the need for an additional license. Some IPs require purchase of a separate license for production use. The Altera® FPGA IP Evaluation Mode allows you to evaluate these licensed IPs in simulation and hardware, before deciding to purchase a full production IP license. You only need to purchase a full production license for licensed Altera IPs after you complete hardware testing and are ready to use the IP in production.
The Quartus® Prime software installs IPs in the following locations by default:
Figure 4. IP Installation Path
| Location | Software | Platform |
|---|---|---|
| <drive>:\intelFPGA_pro\quartus\ip\altera\ethernet\intel_eth_e40 | Quartus® Prime Pro Edition | Windows* |
| <drive>:\intelFPGA_pro\quartus\ip\altera\ethernet\intel_eth_e40 | Quartus® Prime Standard Edition | Windows |
| <home directory>:/intelFPGA_pro/quartus/ip/altera/ethernet/intel_eth_e40 | Quartus® Prime Pro Edition | Linux* |
| <home directory>:/intelFPGA_pro/quartus/ip/altera/ethernet/intel_eth_e40 | Quartus® Prime Standard Edition | Linux |
Note: The Quartus® Prime software does not support spaces in the installation path. The folder name "altera" is used to represent Quartus version in the IP location path shown in the IP Installation Locations table.
