4.2. PCIe-based Design Example Operating System Prerequisites

The operating system prerequisites for the PCIe-based design example depend on the target FPGA device.

PCIe-based Design Example for Intel® Arria® 10 Operating System Prerequisites

The PCIe-based example design for Intel® Arria® 10 devices requires Ubuntu* 18.04.1, which is available from https://old-releases.ubuntu.com/releases/18.04.1/.

On that page, click 64-bit PC (AMD64) desktop image to download the ubuntu-18.04.1-desktop.amd64.iso file.

During the installation, select a Normal installation, not a Minimal installation.

The Ubuntu* 18.04.1 distribution uses Linux* kernel 4.15. The Intel® PAC with Intel® Arria® 10 GX FPGA does not support any other kernel version for Ubuntu* 18.04.

Important: Do not accept any automatic upgrade to a newer kernel version after installation.

PCIe-based Design Example for Intel Agilex® 7 Operating System Prerequisites

The PCIe-based example design for Intel Agilex® 7 devices requires Ubuntu* 20.04 LTS.
