8.1. Nios® V Processor Exception Handling Overview

The Nios® V processor provides the following exception types:
  • Hardware interrupts
  • Software interrupts
  • Timer interrupts
  • Software exceptions, which fall into the following categories:
    • Instruction-related exceptions
    • Miscellaneous exceptions

The Nios® V processor offers the Internal Interrupt Controller (IIC) to handling hardware interrupts. The interrupt controllers are discussed in detail in the Hardware Interrupt Controllers chapter.
