Encountered an Error Code 0x8876086a When Launching TalesRunner on PC with Intel® UHD Graphics 730

An error message "Failed creating the Direct3D device. (Error code: 0x8876086a)" pops up when I launch the TalesRunner on my PC (personal computer) with Intel UHD 730 graphics card.

TalesRunner is an old game which initially released in 2005, it might not be fully supported on the newer platform. TalesRunner only supports up to Windows 7.

Following below steps to resolve the issue:

1. Install the latest Intel® Graphics driver, refer to How to Install an Intel® Graphics Driver in Windows® 10 & Windows 11*.
2. Update DirectX to the latest via DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer.
3. Run the game in Windows 7 compatibility mode.
   1. Right-click the game or game shortcut icon and select Properties.
   2. Select the Compatibility tab.
   3. From the Compatibility mode section, check in the Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows 7.
   4. Click Apply > OK.
