How to remove an unknown device from the windows Device Manager.

Description

Unable to remove an unknown device in the Device Manager.

Resolution

If the Intel® Software Guard Extensions (Intel® SGX) feature is not being used, and the drivers are not loaded, the device manager will display an Unknown device. The Unknown device error can be fixed by following the steps below:

  1. Go into the BIOS.
  2. Once in the BIOS, in the main screen select Advanced.
  3. In advanced, select Processor Configuration.
  4. Once you are in the Processor Configuration menu, disable the Intel® Software Guard Extensions (Intel® SGX).
  5. Reboot and go to the operating system to confirm that the unknown device has disappeared.

If the Intel® Software Guard Extensions (Intel® SGX) needs to be used, download the proper driver in the Intel Download Center.
