- While using Intel® Driver & Support Assistant
ERROR: A customized computer manufacturer driver is installed on your computer. The Intel® Driver & Support Assistant is not able to update the driver. Installing a generic Intel® driver instead of the customized computer manufacturer driver can cause technical issues. Contact your computer manufacturer for the latest driver for your computer.
- During manual driver installation
ERROR: The driver being installed is not validated for this computer. Please obtain the appropriate driver from the computer manufacturer. Setup will exit.
Why did I get this error?
Intel® 6th Generation Core Processors or Newer Processors
This primarily occurs when the currently installed driver on the system is non-DCH. To determine if your system has a DCH driver, see How can I tell if the graphics driver installed on my PC is a Windows DCH Driver?. DCH drivers will only install over OEM DCH drivers, though the OEMs may continue using non-DCH drivers for platforms older than 11th Generation. Rest assured though, there is a solution.

Intel® 5th Generation Core Processors or Older Processors
Computer manufacturers (OEMs) customize their drivers so you get the best experience on their products. These customizations can resolve issues or enable special features for your PC. Since using a non-customized driver can result in the issues being presented or instability in the PC, they've made it so the system prevents you from updating from an OEM driver to a generic driver.
We advise you always use the latest driver from your OEM, though if you want to test a newer generic driver, please refer to Method 2 for the manual instructions in Install an Intel® Graphics Driver in Windows® 10.

How to fix it?
- Try the Troubleshooting Wizard for Intel® Graphics Drivers (Recommended).
- Keep up to date with the latest drivers directly from your computer manufacturer.
- Or you can install the generic Intel® Graphics Driver, but you risk system instability, losing functionality, or causing other technical issues that OEM drivers seek to resolve or enable. If you want to install generic drivers, here's some references for instructions:
