4.3.1. Simics® Simulator

The Simics® simulator for Intel® FPGAs does not provide a model or a virtual platform targeted specifically for the Agilex™ 3 device. However, it supports a model for the Agilex™ 5 device that can be configured to mimic the Agilex™ 3 device functionality.

The Simics® simulator also provides the Agilex™ 3 Universal virtual platform, which along with the Agilex™ 5 device model provide you with a vehicle to exercise your Agilex™ 3 embedded software, allowing you to simulated different use case flows including, booting from u-boot to Linux prompt from different storage devices. The Agilex™ 3 Universal virtual platform also support features such as Ethernet network connectivity and network services, simulated interaction with SDM through a model of the SDM mailbox, a model example design in the FPGA fabric, among many others.

For additional information about how to run a Simics® simulation with the Agilex™ 5 E-Series device, refer to the following:
  • Linux GSRD Simics® Virtual Platform for Agilex™ 5 E-Series
  • Zephyr* GSRD for Agilex™ 5 E-Series Simics® Virtual Platform
The Agilex™ 5 E-Series Universal Virtual Platform provides a large set of configurable parameters that provides some flexibility on the features supported by the Agilex™ 5 HPS model that includes:
  • Configure the model to support Agilex™ 5 E-Series Engineering Sample (ES) or Production features.
  • Configure the model to support Agilex™ 5 D-Series features
  • Configure the model to support Agilex™ 3 features

For information about how the features are supported by the Simics® Simulator for Intel® FPGAs, refer to Simics® Simulator for Intel® FPGAs: Agilex™ 5 E-Series Virtual Platform User Guide and the Simics® Simulator for Intel® FPGAs User Guide.
