1.1. New Features and Enhancements

Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software Version 23.1 includes functional and security updates. Keep your software up-to-date and follow the technical recommendations that help to improve the security of your Intel® Quartus® Prime installation.

New Intel® Quartus® Prime Device Support and Device Support Enhancements

Added new support for Intel Agilex® 7 devices, including Intel Agilex® 7 M-Series devices that introduce an integrated network-on-chip (NoC). For details, refer to Changes in Device Support.

Important: Device support for Intel Agilex® 7 M-Series devices in Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Version 23.1 is restricted. To enable Intel Agilex® 7 M-Series device support in your instance of Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition software, contact your regional Intel FPGA sales representative.

New Intel® Quartus® Prime Intel Agilex® 7 M-Series NoC Support Features and Enhancements

Enhanced Intel® Quartus® Prime software to support Intel Agilex® 7 M-Series devices1 with integrated network-on-chip (NoC) capabilities as follows:
  • Added the Network on Chip (NoC) Assignment Editor to make logical assignments for hard memory NoC-related blocks in your design.
  • Enhanced the Fitter reports with the NoC Connectivity Report and the NoC Performance Report.
  • Enhanced the Chip Planner to show NoC elements.
  • Enhanced the Interface Planner to show NoC elements.
  • Enhanced Platform Designer to support configuration and simulation of the NoC.

New Design Netlist Infrastructure (DNI) Features and Enhancements

(Beta) Enhanced the DNI compilation flow as follows:
  • DNI compilation flow supports the Assembler to generate and download bit stream to the hardware for testing purposes.
  • DNI flow is now compatible with Signal Tap, various design flows (Partial Reconfiguration, black box incremental compile, and import/export flows), and simulation model generation.
  • Constraints viewer enhanced to allow cross-probing of assignments or a constraint to its source file.
  • Object Set Console is redesigned to better display nodes and netlist objects that are part of a selected node.
  • In the list of Compilation Reports, the Constraints Propagation Report has been added to display a chronological history of all changes made to each constraint during the DNI compilation flow.

New Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition RTL Support Features and Enhancements

  • For Intel Agilex® 7 and Intel® Stratix® 10 devices, added Intel Parameterizable Macros instantiation templates for Verilog HDL and VHDL to help start your RTL design.

New Fitter Features and Enhancements

Enhanced the Fixed Point DSP Register Packing Summary and Fixed Point DSP Register Packing Details reports to include additional information, such as names of the registers, the register usage (fully registered, partially registered, or unregistered), and reasons preventing register packing.

New Partial Reconfiguration Features and Enhancements

For Intel Agilex® 7 devices, added M20K memory block protection to prevent memory block lock up. For more details, refer to Why does M20K RAM write operation fail after Partial Reconfiguration on the Intel Agilex® 7 devices? in the Intel® FPGA Knowledge Base.

New Intel® Quartus® Prime Interface Features and Enhancements

  • [Beta] Added new Exploration Dashboard (command line only) to help you aggregate and compare compilation results from multiple projects to determine the best implementation.
  • Enhanced the RTL Analyzer with the Sweep Hints Viewer with Swept object highlight, a shortcut to launch Sweep Hints Viewer, and a new Root Causes view.

New Timing Analyzer Features and Enhancements

  • Enhanced post-synthesis Static Timing Analysis (STA) feature built on top of DNI, including improved delay estimation, new controls to control the delay model, and improved fMAX estimates.
  • Enhanced SDC-on-RTL with improved messages, enhanced equivalence to the conventional SDC flow, and added support for additional SDC commands.
  • Enhance the Report Register Statistics report to include Synchronous Load and Without a Control Signal columns.

New Advanced Link Analyzer Features and Enhancements

  • Updated device support including support for Intel Agilex® 7 F-Tile devices.
  • Enhanced the simulation engine with the following features:
    • Symbol burst error analysis
    • FEC code word error analysis
  • Enhanced the data viewers as follows:
    • Enabled viewing structured simulation data in tool tips
    • Improved CSV eye diagram data import compatibility

New Power and Thermal Calculator Features and Enhancements

  • Added ability to import hierarchies from Intel® Quartus® Prime Power Analyzer (QPA).
  • Merged Navigation and Power Summary panels.
  • Enhanced the RAM page with additional information.

New Nios® V Processor Features and Enhancements

  • Added the Nios® V/g processor to the Nios® V processor family:
    • Based on the RV32IMA RISC-V classification
    • Includes hardware support for:
      • Instruction & Data Cache
      • Hardware Integer Multiplication and Division
      • Custom Instructions
      • RISC-V Based Debug Module
  • Enabled FreeRTOS BSP generation for Nios® V ( Nios® V/m and Nios® V/g )
  • Enabled Picolibc option for Nios® V BSP
  • Enabled Zephyr RTOS for Nios® V/g
  • Updated Ashling* RiscFree* IDE for Intel FPGA to 2023 Q1 release (v23.1.2

New IBIS Model Support Features and Enhancements

For Intel Agilex® 7 F-Series and I-Series devices, introduced the IBIS Writer tool to generate design-specific IBIS models for Intel Agilex® 7 board-level simulations.

Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software Version 23.1 also include bug fixes. Review Software Issues Resolved and Software Patches Included in this Release to see if this version contains fixes for or otherwise resolves any of your customer service ( Intel® Premier Support) requests.
