Participate

The ACAT team is always looking for new opportunities to expand the software capabilities. They welcome participation from users and developers.

Users

ACAT can help people with degenerative, stable, or chronic diseases to communicate. This software is highly customizable in the companion settings program, but it’s also extensible by developers. The ACAT team attempts to address the widest range of these conditions. If the software does not address your specific needs, contact the team, and they will add your suggestions to the list of ideas they are constantly exploring.

Developers

ACAT is based on a plug-in software architecture that allows developers to extend the capabilities of the platform. The core application was developed in C# using Microsoft Visual Studio* 2022 and .NET 4.8.1. It runs on Windows® 10 and 11, and is distributed under Apache License version 2.0.

ConvAssist

The ConvAssist module, developed by Intel Labs, provides word and sentence predictions for ACAT. It extends Pressagio, which predicts text based on n-gram models. ConvAssist uses language models, n-gram databases, semantic match modules, and various safety filters that have been fine-tuned for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).

ConvAssist can also be tested as a stand-alone application. It is extensible and allows developers to bring in new predictors, new language models for word prediction, sentence completion, semantic search, and more. It currently supports English-only models but can also be extended to other languages by incorporating multilingual language models.
