ABOUT INTEL FOLSOM

As the largest private industry employer in Folsom, Intel has a major impact on the surrounding community. We have nearly 6,000 technicians, engineers, and marketing, sales, and support staff at our research and design campus. Together, we are producing the next generation of chips and chipsets. Intel Folsom employees bring processors to new levels of speed and convenience, while extending Intel® architecture to a higher measurement of performance.

Community Involvement

Intel strives to improve the quality of life in our communities by actively supporting local projects and nonprofit organizations. Through the Intel® Involved program, Folsom employees volunteered over 187,000 hours in 2009, which generated USD 1.5 million. Here are a few of the programs they participate in:

  • Kid to Work Day—Roughly, 250 Intel employees volunteer to lead 18 interactive workshops that feature activities to inspire the next generation of innovators by introducing a hands on discovery approach to math, science, and technology.
  • PC Pals—750 employees mentored an equal number of local students and encouraged them to get the most out of their education.
  • Habitat for Humanity—Since 1997, Intel Folsom employees have been building homes for low-income families in Sacramento.
  • Rebuilding Together—50 Intel employees (and 20 of their friends) rehabilitated an entire home for a disabled local resident.
  • In addition to volunteerism, Intel is the only member of the United Way California Capital Region’s Million Dollar Club. Our Folsom and Sacramento employees generously donated USD 1.18 million towards 265 organizations in 2009 and the Intel Foundation matched employee contributions to the United Way’s Community Impact Fund.
  • Collectively, the Sacramento Region received over USD 3.8 million a year in Employee Giving and Intel Involved Matching Grants.

Education

Intel Folsom supports local education programs at all levels of development, from elementary schools to universities. We provide support to Sacramento-area schools through these initiatives:

  • Intel Connected to Schools is a program that helps Sacramento elementary schools address the issue of underperforming students. Through the Intel Foundation, we provide program support, equipment, mentors, and adult role models.
  • Competitive activities help promote innovation and creative learning. That’s why Intel Folsom gets involved in science fairs at local schools. Intel partnered with GenCorp to support the Folsom/Cordova District science fair. We also donated USD 30,000 to help sponsor the Grant Unified School District science fair.
  • Intel Folsom encourages higher education learning by developing curricula and supporting facilities that prepare students for high-tech jobs. We collaborate with several local institutions, including the University of California at Davis, California State University at Sacramento, and Los Rios Community College.

Environment

For the last 25 years, Intel Folsom has been working toward reducing the number of cars on the road and improving air quality. In partnership with the 50 Corridor TMA, we help promote the use of alternative transportation. Intel provides subsidies to employees who use light rail and local bus services. We also encourage our employees through bike-to-work programs, Rideshare programs, and shuttle services from the Folsom light rail station to the Intel Folsom campus. Together, we are making a significant contribution to reducing air pollution and traffic levels in the greater Sacramento area.
