Description

Intel® Optane™ Solid State Drives cannot be recognized in the system and BIOS.

Resolution
  1. Check your hardware:
    • Make sure all cables and ports are clean, firt-free and are not damaged.
    • Try different cables and ports if possible.
    • Test a known working drive on the current port.
    • Make sure the drive is connected directly to the motherboard. Intel® Optane™ SSDs connected by an adapter/dongle/enclosure may not be detected in the OS or by the Intel® Memory and Storage Tool.
    • If there is another system available, check the SSD in that system.
  2. Check you system BIOS:
    • Make sure the motherboard is running the latest BIOS version. Check with the system vendor to download the latest.
    • Confirm in the motherboard user guide that all settings are correct for the type of drive that is being used. 
  3. Use the latest NVMe* drivers:
  4. Update to the latest firmware if available:
Did the error occur during the OS installation?
  • Make sure the OS system installation media (boot drive) is in good working condition and not damaged.
  • Use Secure Erase in the Intel® Memory and Storage Tool or do a Low-Level format on the SSD and try the installation again.
    • Secure Erase is blocked by Windows 8.1*, Windows® 10,  Windows 11*.
