The Intel® Memory and Storage Tool (Intel® MAS) combines the functionality and support of other tools such as the Intel® SSD Toolbox, Intel® Datacenter Tool and Intel® SSD Pro Admin Tool.

The tool can be used with the GUI (Graphical User Interface, or CLI (Command Line Interface). With each you can monitor and manage your Intel SSD's health, keep the firmware up to date, and view relevant logs for further analysis.

Guidance on some key capabilities is given below.

Command Line Interface (CLI)
  1. Identify and display drive information.
    1. [Windows*] Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
      1. Click Windows menu.
      2. Type command prompt.
      3. Click on Run as administrator.
    2. [Linux*] Open Terminal with root privileges.
      1. Press CTRL+ALT+T.
      2. Type sudo su (Ensure the command line interface begins with # and not $, as this indicates user has root privileges.)
    3. Type the following: intelmas show -intelssd (Images in the following steps are from Windows as an example.)
    4. Reference the Index number of the drive. We will use 1 as an example below:

  2. View/Export the SMART (Self-Monitoring and Reporting Technology) Logs.
    1. For SATA drives: Type intelmas show -smart -intelssd 1
    2. For PCIe* drives: Type intelmas show -nvmelog smarthealthinfo -intelssd 1

      Copy and paste the screen scroll into a text file, or add the following to the end of the commands above > intelssdfilename.txt

      Provide this information to support agents.

  3. Export additional logs for Intel Support.

    If you encounter an issue, it may be necessary to export additional logs from the drive. nlogs are not supported on all drives. If you have any questions, contact support.

    1. Type intelmas dump -nlog -intelssd 1 for nlog. For more detailed system logs do the following before pulling the logs: intelmas set -system EnableLog=true
    2. Locate the nlog binary file and TDKI.log in the Intel® Memory and Storage Tool folder, typically found under Program Files (x86)\Intel
  4. Update the Firmware.
    1. Confirm the latest firmware version supported in Intel Tools.
    2. Type intelmas load -intelssd 1 (User can create a script to update multiple drives.)
      Note

      SSDs in RAID? Firmware can be updated as it is in systems with Intel® RST, Intel® RSTe, and Intel® VROC.

      For updating firmware with the supported hardware RAID cards below, first use the following command: intelmas set -system EnableLSIAdapter='true'

      Supported RAID cards:

      • MR SAS 9260-16i (RAID card chipset LSI-2108)
      • MR SAS 9270-8i (RAID card chipset LSI-2208)
      • MR SAS 9341-4i (RAID card chipset LSI-3008)
      • MR SAS 9341-8i (RAID card chipset LSI-3008)
      • MR SAS 9361-4i (RAID card chipset LSI-3108)

      For unsupported configurations, customers may use MegaCli/StorCli or other tools.

Graphic User Interface (GUI) - Windows Only
  1. Display of health information and drive details can be found on the main page for each Intel® SSD in the system.

  2. View/Export the SMART (Self-Monitoring and Reporting Technology) Logs.
    1. Select the drive on the left side panel.
    2. Hover over the Feature or Select a Feature, depending on the version you are running, and press Drive Details.

    3. Attributes can be viewed in the tool, or exported by pressing the Export button.

  3. Update the firmware.
    1. The device home page will display if there is a firmware update available. If there is not a firmware update available, you can confirm the latest version of the application is running by clicking Check For Updates.
    2. If available, press Firmware Update as seen in the image below.

    3. Press Firmware Update and complete the process.
