Summary

Install the official drivers from the computer manufacturer instead.

Description

When putting the computer to sleep mode for a second time, it will:

  • Not wake up.

Or

  • Wake up only occasionally.
Resolution

When encountering sleep-mode issues on Intel drivers, install the official drivers from the computer manufacturer instead. Before installing the official drivers, uninstall the current drivers first to ensure a clean installation.

How to get the official driver from your manufacturer

You may contact the support for your computer manufacturer on where to download the official drivers and instructions on how to install it.

How to uninstall your graphic driver:

  1. Open the Device ManagerPress the Windows key and the X key together. Select Device Manager.
  2. Expand the Display Adapters section.
  3. Find the Intel Graphics Driver in the list. The driver can also be called the Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver (Intel® GMA Driver).
  4. Right-click the Intel Graphics Driver and click uninstall.
  5. Select the Delete the driver software for this device checkbox.
  6. Restart the computer.
  7. If no older drivers are stored in the system, the graphics controller in Device Manager should now be listed as Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, Standard VGA Graphics Adapter or with a similar name. If not, repeat steps 1 through 6.

Additional information

Windows* auto-update may overwrite the official drivers and revert it back to Intel's drivers. In this case, you will need to re-install the official driver again. To avoid Windows update from overwriting the official driver, turn off automatic updates and do not select to update your graphic driver when available from Windows update. For complete and official instructions in turning off the automatic updates for Windows, contact Microsoft support.
