Steps to correct "VRD Hot Exceeded limit" scenario
Blinking amber on the front and the System Event Log (SEL) shows VRD Hot Exceeded limit:
"Temperature VRD Hot (#0x90) CRITICAL event: VRD Hot reports its limit has been exceeded. (Processor VRD HOT: CPU 2) Integrated BMC - LUN#0 (Channel#0)"
Proceed as follows:
- Check for clear and unobstructed airflow into and out of the chassis. Refer to our Self-help guides for the different integration manuals.
- Ensure the server board Sensor Data Record (SDR) is the latest version.
- Make sure there are no fan failures. Therefore, verify that all fans, including the processor heatsink/fans, are reseated (See How to Install an Intel® Xeon® Processor into an LGA3647 Socket for more information).
- See to it that the air used for cooling the system is within the thermal specifications for the system (typically below 35° C).
For more information, refer to the Discrete Thermal Sensors - Next Steps section of the System Event Log (SEL) Troubleshooting Guide.
