BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
Summary

Unable to see or select display when connected to a second display device.

Description
  • Can't select the first monitor/display when plugging in a second device.
  • A dual monitor system displays nothing on the second screen.
Resolution

Troubleshooting steps:

  1. Plug in the monitor with no display using the cable of the working monitor
  2. Open Display Settings from Control Panel
  3. Look for image of monitors on the display representing your physical monitors
  4. Select the monitor that does not show any display
  5. Multiple Displays select Extend desktop to display

If the above method doesn't work, see the information below:

  • Verify the other display is physically connected to the computer.
  • Verify the other display is powered on.
  • Try reseating the video cable on both ends: where it connects to on the display and on the computer.
  • Try reopening the graphics properties window.
  • Try rebooting the computer.
  • If you are using a laptop computer and it is running on a battery, try connecting your laptop to an external power source. On some laptops, the external display device connector is not enabled when the laptop is running on battery.
  • Try a different cable.
  • Some monitors have more than one input connector. Verify that the display is configured to use the input connector, or try a different input connector on the monitor. You might need to use the button or menu to switch to the appropriate input connector or source.
