Description
When you hear the words “online transaction processing,” or “OLTP,” the first thing that might come to mind is online shopping or ATMs. Indeed, OLTP databases manage many essential functions for e-commerce and banking when customers make changes such as updating a shopping cart or withdrawing money. The faster the database can process the change and display it—for the customer, other customers checking inventory, or the bank—the better. Unfortunately, during peak traffic, OLTP databases backed by underperforming cloud instances might be slower to process and display information. This can lead to frustration, and not just for shopping or banking customers. Medical records systems, IT ticketing, and travel bookings are other common use cases where both workers and customers rely on speedy OLTP database performance. But with frustratingly slow performance, companies can stress their workforce and lose revenue.
