Work-from-home models have put stress on broadband networks, 4K video has become mainstream and 8K is starting to gain momentum. Vodafone collaborated with Intel to reduce cable modem termination system (CMTS) energy consumption. The first stage of this modernization is virtualized CMTS (vCMTS), transitioning from single-purpose hardware to general-purpose servers based on Intel architecture. This current generation improves power efficiency by 28%, and next-generation, cloud-native vCMTS extends that improvement to 39%.
