Why do I get a “Failed to initialize drivers” error when loading my Stratix® 10 device E-tile Transceiver PHY variant into System Console?

Environment

    Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition
    Stratix® 10 E-Tile Transceiver Native PHY
BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
Description

Due to a problem in the Quartus® Prime Pro software versions 19.3 and earlier, if a Stratix® 10 device E-Tile Transceiver PHY variant is created with Platform Designer and is using NPDME, loading the variant into System Console will cause an error such as, “Failed to initialize drivers for E-Tile Native Phy”.

Resolution

To work around this issue, perform the following steps:

1.) Open the Qsys system from the project
2.) Click “Validate System Integrity” at bottom right corner of Platform Designer
3.) Click “Reload and Update all Components”, which will show that it’s reloading the component footprints
4.) Close the popup once done reloading
5.) Repeat steps 2-4 once more
6.) Click “Generate”

This problem is fixed in the Quartus® Prime Pro Software 20.1.
