Why does my OS freeze when using the Stratix 10 PCIe Hard IP core?

Environment

  • Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition
  • PCI Express
  • Avalon-ST Intel® Stratix® 10 Hard IP for PCI Express
  • Avalon-MM Intel® Stratix® 10 Hard IP for PCI Express
  • BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
    Description

    Due to a problem with the Quartus® Prime Pro software version 17.1, you may see your operating system freeze on boot or experience no PCIe* linkup, when using the Stratix® 10 GX PCIe Hard IP core.

    This is due to an improper setting in the Quartus software. This issue affects Stratix 10 GX devices with ES1 L-Tiles, ES2 L-Tiles, or ES H-Tiles.

    Resolution

    Using the links below, install patch 0.02 on top of Quartus Prime Pro 17.1. Regenerate the Stratix 10 PCIe Hard IP variant and recompile your design.
