DS-5 Debugger Unable to Connect to SoC HPS

Critical Issue

Description

If you try to connect the DS-5 debugger to the SoC HPS with a USB-Blaster, you might see an error message similar to the following:

Connection Failed Unable to connect

This problem can occur if the SoC HPS is the only node in the JTAG chain.

You might also see message similar to the following in the DS-5 Commands view:

WARNING(TAD16): Failed to disconnect from Cortex-A9_0
Resolution

Add the FPGA fabric or the MAX device to the JTAG chain. For example, on the Cyclone V SoC development board, on SW4, move the FPGA or MAX switch to the OFF position.

Alternatively, you can use the DSTREAM debug probe to connect to the HPS, or upgrade to the SoC EDS v14.0 or later.
