Resolution

Intel® Cache Allocation Technology (Intel® CAT) serves as an integral component of Intel® Resource Director Technology (Intel® RDT), facilitating effective management and allocation of shared cache and memory resources to optimize workload performance. This technology is supported across various generations of Intel® Xeon® Processors.

Generational Details:

Intel® Xeon® Processor E5 v3 and E5 v4 Families:

  • Intel® CAT Support: Introduced the ability to configure and utilize CAT mechanisms within the L3 cache.

Intel® Xeon® Scalable Family (1st Gen, 2nd Gen, 3rd Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable):

  • Features: IPC enhancements and additional improvements in CAT technology.

Intel® Xeon® Scalable Family (3rd Gen and 4th Gen):

  • 3rd Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable: Enhanced Intel® RDT support, including advanced CAT for cache monitoring and allocation.
  • 4th Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable: Features include augmented AI, security, and energy efficiency capabilities.

5th Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable Processors:

  • Features: Incorporate up to 64 cores, increased last-level cache and memory speeds, and improved functionality for contemporary workloads with integrated hardware accelerators.

Intel® Xeon® 6 Processors:

  • Features: Offer up to 144 E-cores per socket, 8 DDR5 memory channels per CPU, and support for high-performance computation at scale. CAT is supported within the Intel® RDT framework, facilitating performance prioritization for crucial applications.
