Valorant crashes, freezes, or closes to desktop without an error message while using Intel® Arc™ Graphics. This may occur on any driver version and across multiple game modes. Some users may also see a DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED or DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG error in the Valorant crash logs.
1. Update your Intel® Graphics Driver An outdated or corrupted driver is one of the most common causes of game crashes. Download and install the latest Intel® Arc™ Graphics driver from the Intel Download Center. For a clean installation, use Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) in Safe Mode before reinstalling.
2. Update Windows Make sure your system is fully up to date via Windows Update, including optional driver updates. Valorant's anti-cheat software (Vanguard) requires an up-to-date OS to function correctly.
3. Restart Valorant as Administrator Right-click the Valorant shortcut and select Run as administrator. This can resolve permission-related crashes, especially those triggered by Vanguard.
4. Switch to Borderless Windowed mode Crashes in fullscreen mode are more frequent on Intel® Arc™ Graphics. In Valorant's video settings, change the display mode to Windowed Fullscreen (Borderless). This is a known workaround that reduces crash frequency.
5. Cap your FPS Uncapped frame rates significantly increase crash likelihood on Intel® Arc™ Graphics. In Valorant's video settings, set a frame rate limit (e.g., 240 FPS or your monitor's refresh rate). This is particularly effective for the DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG crash variant.
6. Close background applications Third-party overlays (e.g., Discord overlay, MSI Afterburner, RTSS) can conflict with Valorant's Vanguard anti-cheat. Disable all overlays and close unnecessary background applications before launching the game.
7. Check system temperatures Use Intel® Graphics Software to monitor GPU temperature during gameplay. If temperatures exceed safe thresholds, ensure adequate system cooling and airflow.
8. If the issue persists Some crash variants on Intel® Arc™ Graphics are related to Valorant's game engine or Vanguard anti-cheat behavior rather than the Intel driver. If none of the above steps resolve the issue, please contact Riot Games Support directly, as a game-side fix may be required.
