Description
When playing Total War: Atilla a black screen is encountered with only the cursor seen once a game is loaded from campaign or skirmish mode
Issue can also be observed when playing the other Total War: Rome II.
Resolution
Steps to resolve when getting black screen with only the cursor showing when playing Total War: Atilla
- Install the latest drivers from the system manufacturer. To know the latest drivers, contact your system manufacturer.
- If the latest driver from the system manufacturer did not work, install latest Intel generic graphics drivers.
- Change the Direct X being used by the game.
- Go to c:/users/[username]/appdata/roaming/The Creative Assembly/Rome2/Scripts/
- Create backup of preferences.scripts.txt
- Open preferences.scripts.txt
- Change gfx_enable_directx11 true; to gfx_enable_directx11 false;
- Disable Steam Overlay, if using Steam launcher.
- Open Steam.
- Go to Steam > Settings.
- Click In-Game.
- Untick "Enable the Steam Overlay" while in-game.
- Click Ok.
