Unable to Mark a Disk as a Spare in the Intel® Optane™ Memory and Storage Management Application

Description

After selecting a disk to be marked as a spare in the Manage tab, the following error is encountered: The operation cannot be performed because one or more of the selected disk(s) contains data

Resolution

In the Intel® Optane™ Memory and Storage Management application, none of the disks selected to be a spare can contain any data.

Remaining data must be removed to continue:

  1. Press Windows* key+r keys to open Run Dialog.
  2. Type diskpart and press OK.
  3. Press Yes on the User Account Control prompt.
  4. Type list disk.. Notice the * beside any disk you wish to select in the GPT column.
  5. Select the disk to be uninitialized by typing select disk <number>.
  6. Type clean.
  7. Type list disk. Notice the * is no longer there.
  8. Repeat for any additional disks.

Proceed to mark as spare any drives you wish in the application.
