Environment

Operating System

Windows 11, 64-bit*, Windows® 10, 64-bit*
Intel® Optane™ Memory

Description

When trying to enable acceleration in the Intel® Optane™ Memory and Storage Management application, the following error message is encountered: "The operation cannot be performed because one or more of the selected disk(s) contains data. To continue, please back up all data and erase data on the select disk(s). Click Help for detailed instructions."

Resolution

The Intel® Optane™ memory module can't contain any user data, not even GPT partition data.

Remaining data must be removed before enabling system acceleration, see below for how to do this.

  1. Press Windows* key+r keys to open Run Dialog.
  2. Type diskpart and press OK.
  3. Press Yes on the User Account Control prompt.
  4. Type list disk.. Notice the * beside the module in the GPT column.
  5. Select the disk to be uninitialized (the module) by typing select disk <number>.
  6. Type clean.
  7. Type list disk. Notice the * is no longer there.

Next, proceed to enable system acceleration from the application.
