Content Type: Troubleshooting   |   Article ID: 000088777   |   Last Reviewed: 04/11/2025

Environment

Operating System

Windows 11, 64-bit*
Intel® Optane™ Memory

Description

Unclear why in Windows 11* the Defragment and Optimize application allows user to press the Optimize button for the Intel Optane Memory volume.

Resolution

In Windows 11*, the Defragment and Optimize application is incorrectly detecting Intel® Optane™ Memory volumes as HDDs and making this functionality available to defrag the volume. This is a bug and Intel is checking with Microsoft for a resolution.

NoteIt is OK to Press the Optimize button and complete this process, but it is not recommended, as there could be a reduction in performance as the Intel® RST software then re-optimizes the data on the drive.
