Content Type: Maintenance & Performance   |   Article ID: 000088604   |   Last Reviewed: 01/20/2022

Description

Issue: The maximum Intel® Turbo frequency for performance cores or efficient cores using  the 12Gen Intel® Core™ is not reached.

Resolution

Max Turbo Frequency refers to the maximum single-core processor frequency that can be achieved with Intel® Turbo Boost Technology. See the article Intel® Turbo Boost Technology 2.0: Higher Performance When You Need It Most for more information and applicability of this technology.

To resolve this issue, try the following:

  1. Clear CMOS and or/update BIOS.
  2. Reseat the processor.
  3. Ensure that the fan heat sink is adjusted properly and is appropriate for your system.
  4. Make sure to apply the right amount of TIM (thermal interface material).

Additional information

  1. If you are using Intel® XTU and your processor is supporting it, you can see why the processor is throttling. Power Limit, Current Limit, Thermal, and others.
  2. You can run the Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool to verify the functionality of the processor.
