Description

Unable to use integrated Intel graphics on a desktop system after installing a discrete graphics card. Exit Code 8 is displayed.

Resolution

Installing a PCI Express graphics controller disables Intel integrated graphics. Whenever a discrete graphics card is added to the system, it will disable the graphics provided by the processor, unless the system has a feature in the BIOS that can provide an option to choose between integrated and discrete graphics or automatically choose the graphics controller based on the requirements for processing the graphics.

To enable intel integrated graphics when using a discrete graphics card:

  1. Enable iGPU multi-monitor in the BIOS.
  2. Note that different motherboards have different names for the option, so contact the motherboard manufacturer for further confirmation.

If you prefer to use the Intel integrated graphics only:

  1. Remove the external PCI express card.
  2. Uninstall the drivers for the external PCI express card.
  3. Restart your system.

If the issue still persists:

  1. Open Device Manager.
  2. Go to Actions.
  3. Select Add legacy hardware.
  4. Click Next on Add Hardware Wizard.
  5. Select Recommended Option.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Select Display Adapters.
  8. Select Intel Corporation from Manufacturers list.
  9. Select appropriate Intel Graphics Controllers based on your CPU graphics.
  10. Click Next and follow the on-screen instructions.
