How to Check Memory Compatibility for Intel® NUCs

Environment

Windows® 10 family

BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
Summary

Different NUC models have different specifications, check the product page for which memory is compatible.

Description
  • Using 2666MHz instead of 3200MHz memory frequency/speed
  • Using memory with 1.2V voltage rating

When trying to find a compatible memory or RAM (Random Access Memory) modules for your Intel® NUC, there are multiple factors to check.

Getting your Intel® NUC's memory specifications

  1. Go to our product website
  2. Find your product model by typing it onto the search bar or by finding it on the list of products.
  3. Once you are on your product model's page, scroll-down until you get to the Memory & Storage part.

The listed specifications you will find are the following:

  • Max Memory Size - This is the maximum size (in GB) of combined RAM modules the NUC system can handle. For example, if the max memory size is 64GB, you can use any combination of RAM modules that can total up to 64GB.
  • Memory Types - This line will include several factors, for example we will be using "DDR4-3200 1.2V SO-DIMM"
    • DDR4 - Only use the exact DDR# RAM type, not higher or lower. For this it means you can only use DDR4, not DDR3, DDR2, DDR5.
    • 3200 - Is the frequency or speed of the RAM, you can use RAM modules with this much speed or lower than the number specified.
    • 1.2V - The compatible voltage rating of the RAM. Do not use any higher than the specified voltage rating.
    • SO-DIMM - Refers to the form factor/size type of the RAM. Use only the exact RAM form factor or size, as other sizes will not fit.
  • Max Memory Bandwidth - The maximum rate at which data can be read from or stored into the RAM modules.
  • Max # of DIMMs - The maximum number of RAM modules you can install on the NUC,
  • ECC Memory Supported - States whether ECC (error correcting code) is supported.
Additional information
  • DDR - Double Data Rate
  • DIMM - Dual In-line Memory Module
  • SO-DIMM - Small Outline Dual In-Line Memory Module
