Intel® NUC Fan Running at 100% All the Time

Windows 11* Family, Windows® 10 family

Troubleshooting high fan speed behavior.

After starting the system and running for several seconds, the fan starts and continues to run at high speed and the SSD light flashes (approx. every 1 to 2 seconds) non-stop.

High CPU utilization can cause excessive heat, resulting in the system fan running at 100%.

  1. From the Windows Start Menu, open Task Manager
  2. Under Process tab, click CPU column header.  This will sort the applications by CPU utilization
  3. Note the application that is consuming the most CPU resources.
  4. If you know what this application is and can safely end the process or close the application, do so.
  5. If you don't know the application, search the Internet to learn more about it.
  6. If you're suspicions of the application, run an antivirus scan (with your preferred antivirus software) on your system.
  7. After the scan results are obtained, take the actions suggested by your antivirus softwared.

If the high fan speed persists, contact Intel Customer Support.
