Unable To Install the Thunderbolt™ 3 DCH Driver for Windows® 10 on Intel® NUC

Summary

Steps to install the Thunderbolt driver in the event that IDSA fails to update the driver.

Description
  • Unable to update driver Thunderbolt™ 3 DCH Driver for Windows® 10 for Intel® NUC.
  • Intel DSA (Driver & Support Assistant) updates do not work
    • either showing a pop-up for updating the Thunderbolt™ 3 DCH Driver, but will have no option to update. Only options are Uninstall or Close.
    • or after a thunderbolt driver installation finishes and the computer is restarted, but the software is still not updated
Resolution
  1. Connect a Thunderbolt device into the Thunderbolt port.
  2. Uninstall the existing Thunderbolt Software. This should also uninstall the driver.
    1. Open the Start menu and click Settings.
    2. Select Apps & features.
    3. Select Thunderbolt Software and click Uninstall.
  3. Restart the computer.
  4. Open the Intel® Driver & Support Assistant and complete the update by following the prompts.
  5. Restart the computer.
  6. Open the Intel® Driver & Support Assistant and click on refresh results, the software will now be updated.

 

If this does not resolve the issue, also make sure that the operating system is up to date 

  1. Click Start.
  2. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
  3. Click the Check for Updates button.
  4. Select and Install any available new builds
  5. Once the update is finished, the update for Thunderbolt™ 3 DCH Driver for Windows® 10 for Intel® NUC on Intel DSA should no longer appear.
