Explanation and solution for network interfaces not being detected on ESXi for Intel® Server Board S2600ST Family

Description

Network interfaces are not being detected the VMware* ESXi installer. Therefore, you are not able to install the operating system.

Resolution

Update the Non-Volatile Memory (NVM) firmware to version 4.10 using the following steps:

  1. Download and unzip the S2600ST_NVMUpdatePackage_v4.10.zip on to a USB flash drive.
NoteIf your current NVM version is older than v3.51, you must update to v3.51 first before updating to v4.10.
  2. Locate a folder that is according to the environment that is going to be used for the update (EFI, Windows*, or Linux*)
  3. Select a folder according to the server configuration:
    1. Disable SFP ports if a LAN Riser Cable Kit AXXSTSFPPKIT is not installed.
    2. Enable SFP ports if a LAN Riser kit is installed.
  4. Run the following command:
    • EFI Shell: nvmupdate64e.efi –c nvmupdate.cfg -rd
    • Windows cmd prompt: nvmupdatew64e.exe –c nvmupdate.cfg -rd
  5. Follow instructions on the screen. When the utility offers to select the device, choose [A]ll, and then back up the NVM images. Wait for the procedure being completed.
  6. Power Cycle the server system to apply changes.
