How to Resolve the Error Code 84F2

Intel® Server Board S2600BP Family  

Description

The IPMI (Intelligent Platform Management Interface) on a node has failed, displaying the error code 84F2.

Resolution

The 84F2 code refers to the Baseboard management controller (BMC) failing to respond (See the System Firmware Progress (Formerly POST Error) – Next Steps section of the System Event Log Troubleshooting Guide).

In order to erase the error from the BIOS, proceed clearing the CMOS: 

  1. Plug out the compute module and remove the air duct.
  2. Move the jumper* from pins 1-2 to pins 2-3, momentarily. It is not necessary to leave the jumper in place while rebooting.
  3. Restore the jumper from pins 2-3 to the normal setting of pins 1-2.
  4. Install the air duct and plug in the compute module, and power up.
  5. Test.
NoteIf the BIOS Error Manager shows POST Error Codes 0012 (System RTC date/time not set) and/or 5220 (BIOS Settings reset to default settings), proceed as follows:
  1. Go to the Setup Main tab, and set the System Date and System Time to the correct current settings.
  2. Make any other changes that are required in Setup – for example, Boot Order.

If the issue persists, contact support with the Intel System Information Retrieval Utility extracted from your system.
