Unable to Configure JBOD Mode on Intel® RAID Controller Using the Integrated RAID (IR) Software

Environment

Intel® RAID Controller using the IR software

BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
Summary

How to configure JBOD (Just a Bunch Of Drives) mode on Intel IR Controllers such as the Intel® RAID Controller RS3UC080

Description

I am unable to configure JBOD mode (aka passthrough mode) on my Intel RAID Controller RS3UC080.

Resolution

There is no need (no option) to enable JBOD mode on an Intel® RAID Controller using the IR software.

Any physical drive connected to the controller is put in JBOD mode automatically.

They are visible by the operating system (OS) as individual drives until it is used for a RAID array.

NoteWhen a drive is used as JBOD (passthrough), the IR controller will still show the drive under the list of available drives when creating new RAID array. It is important not to select these JBOD drives by accident or else data on the drives will be lost.
