Information on LDAP compatibility with the integrated Baseboard Management Controller

Description

Unsuccessfully trying to configure Microsoft Active Directory Lightweight Directory Access Protocol* (LDAP*) with BMC

Resolution

The Lightweight Directory Access Protocol* (LDAP*) is an application protocol supported by the BMC for the purpose of authentication and authorization. The BMC user connects with a LDAP server for login authentication. This is only supported for non-IPMI logins including the embedded web User Interface (UI) and Server Management Command Line Protocol (SM-CLP). Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) users/passwords and sessions are not supported over LDAP.

LDAP can be configured (IP address of LDAP server, port, and so on) through the BMC's Embedded Web UI. LDAP authentication and authorization is supported over the(Network Interface Controller (NIC), which is configured for system management. The BMC uses a standard Open LDAP implementation for Linux*.

Only open LDAP is supported by BMC (Windows* and Novell LDAP* are not supported).
