Intel® Optane™ Memory Causing System to Freeze

Description

When Intel® Optane™ memory is removed from the system there are no problems. But once it is connected and set up on the system, the problem of freezing happens.

  • Back up all your data.
  • Make sure that your BIOS is up to date. Check with your system vendor for BIOS updates.

These short freezes, or the system getting stuck during use, might be due to outdated drivers and firmware. Try the following steps to fix this issue:

  1. Disable the system acceleration with Intel® Optane™ memory: How to Disable System Acceleration with Intel® Optane™ Memory.
  2. Check for available firmware updates for your Intel® Optane™ memory: Intel® Memory and Storage Tool: Quick Tips on How to View Drive Details, Update Firmware, and Pull SMART Logs.
  3. Uninstall any legacy application you may have for Intel® Optane™ memory: Intel® Rapid Storage Technology and Intel® Optane™ Memory Applications Will No Longer Be Updated (End-of-Life Notice).
  4. Update the Intel® RST driver: What Intel® Rapid Storage Technology Driver Is Supported on My Platform?.
