Troubleshooting steps for kernel warnings 37 and 41 in Event Viewer.
Event viewer shows the following information:
Event ID: 37/41 Source: Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Processor-Power.
The speed of processor 3 in group 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for [x] seconds since the last report.
- Update to the latest BIOS version available for the unit
- Load BIOS defaults.
- In BIOS, press F9, Save and Exit.
- Set Primary Power Settings to be Balanced or Maximum in BIOS.
- Set Power options in Windows to High Performance and Maximum & Minimum processor states to be 100%.
In Windows:
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options >
- Set Power Plan: High performance
- Under Power Plan (High performance), select Change plan settings
- Change advanced power settings
- Processor power management:
- Set Minimum processor state = 100%
- Set Maximum processor state = 100%
Event Viewer ID 37 is part of the normal frequency/power management that exists on all platforms.
For example, the OS requests more power/frequency due to increased Hyper-Threading/Applications running. The firmware responds and denies it due to the maximum power for the current system has already been reached. This basically means that the processor is being managed by technologies such as Enhanced Intel SpeedStep® Technology, Intel® Speed Shift Technology, etc.
If the previous steps do not fix these warnings, it is recommended to perform a clean installation of the operating system in case of software corruption.
