Why Is the Processor Drawing More Voltage Than Expected?

Content Type: Troubleshooting   |   Article ID: 000038700   |   Last Reviewed: 04/08/2022

Description

The processor is drawing more voltage than expected.

Symptoms:

  1. Unexpected system shutdown
  2. Unintentional overclocking
  3. Performance issues, Blue Screen Errors (BSOD), or crashes
  4. Possibly overheating issue

Resolution

The processor will never damage a motherboard because it consumes power based on voltage regulator of the motherboard.

Try the following steps:

  • Disable overclocking features in the BIOS.
  • Some high-end motherboards have jumpers that allow for higher CPU voltages for overclocking systems. Refer to your motherboard vendor for support.
