Description

Can the USB-C/Thunderbolt* devices be turned off when the unit is on low power mode or powered off?

Resolution

This is expected behavior. USB-C/Thunderbolt* power will be provided by the port even if the unit is powered off or in sleep mode.  A feature in BIOS can be used to disable Portable Device Charging Mode, but it will cause the unit to either provide extra power during S4/S5 sleep states or not.

To modify the "Portable Device Charging Mode" follow this steps:

  1. Access the BIOS during the POST screen press repeatedly the F2 key
  2. Click on "Advance".
  3. Click on "Devices".
  4. Click on "USB".
  5. Locate the "Portable Device Charging Mode".
  6. Set value to enable/disable this option.
