What to Do If the Intel® SSD Shows 0 B of Space

Recommendations to try when the Intel® SSD shows 0 B of space

Description

The disk is detected but shows as having 0 B of space. Disk Partition tool is unable to create partitions. When attempting to initialize disk in Disk Management, MBR will show an error saying the device is not ready and GPT will error, saying the specified disk is not convertible because the size is less than the minimum size required for GPT disks. 

Resolution
  • Try to format the drive.
    • Option 1: Use Disk Management.
      1. Press the Windows* key + x, and select the Disk Management option to open the utility.
    • Option 2: Use Diskpart. Use this option if the first one does not work.
      1. Open the Command Prompt with admin rights.
      2. Type the command diskpart to start the utility.
      3. Type the command list disk to review the available disks. Match the capacity to find the SSD in question.
      4. Type the command select disk <index>. Use the index number for the disk in question.
      5. Type the command clean and wait for the process to finish.
      6. Reboot the system and go back to Disk Management to see if a new simple volume can be created.
