How to Check Corrupted Files and Repair Them

The system randomly freezes up and the applications become unresponsive.
Getting the following error when trying to open an application:
Failure to display security and shut down options. The logon process was unable to display security and logon options when CTRL+ALT+DELETE was pressed. If the operating system does not respond, press ESC or restart the computer by using the power switch
By running the System File Checker tool and following the instructions here, the system will find and repair the corrupted files to fix the issue.
